Uzbekistan's WTO membership process: the next important meeting

Head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Saida Mirziyoyeva met with the Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. During the dialogue, the process of Uzbekistan becoming a member of this organization and the final tasks facing the country were discussed.

For reference: The process of Uzbekistan becoming a member of the WTO has gained a new momentum since 2023. Since then, the negotiations have intensified, and as of July 2026, 13 meetings of the Working Group on WTO accession have been held.

To date, bilateral negotiations on market opening have started with 35 WTO member countries, and negotiations with 33 countries have been completed. Also, nearly 200 documents of national legislation were harmonized with WTO rules and principles.

We have covered a large part of this road, and it is very important that we finish the work that has been started without weakening our strength, - says S. Mirziyoyeva.

WTO membership is a path to new opportunities. This process is an important step for the deeper integration of Uzbekistan's economy into the international trade system.
