President Shavkat Mirziyoyev called the construction of a new highway on the Tashkent-Samarkand route the next huge historical step in the development of the country’s transport infrastructure.
92 bridges, 28 overpasses and 60 tunnel-type crossings will be built on the 282-kilometer six-lane highway worth about $2.2 billion. The road will be built with a monolithic concrete pavement suitable for high-speed traffic.
When the new highway is put into operation, the travel time from Tashkent to Samarkand will be reduced from 5 hours to 2.5 hours. The road will serve up to 60-80 thousand vehicles per day, and the cost of freight transportation is expected to decrease by 20-24 percent.
